Ilisse Perlmutter, M.D.

Ilisse Perlmutter, M.D., has joined the staff at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center as our Chairperson for Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder Treatment Services. Dr. Perlmutter graduated from Harpur College of SUNY-Binghamton and subsequently earned her MSW at Yeshiva University. After a brief career in social work, she returned to school and received her MD from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. After an internship in pediatrics, she completed a residency in psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Medical Center followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Perlmutter has held leadership roles in several institutions, and she is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C.

 

Dr. Perlmutter’s publications, presentations, and research experience focus on clinical, epidemiologic, and psychopharmacologic issues in child and adolescent psychiatry, and she has made frequent media appearances addressing topical issues. Immediately after 9/11, Dr. Perlmutter joined Disaster Psychiatry Outreach (DPO) as a volunteer and worked extensively at the Pier 94 Family Assistance Center supervising activities with children and families in Kid’s Korner while also working with the NYPD. Along with her DPO colleagues, she has given many regional and national presentations in Disaster Psychiatry Training. Dr. Perlmutter was named one of Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors — New York Metro Area for several years and was named as one of the Best Doctors in America 2009–2010.

 

She is a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. In addition to holding leadership roles in national organizations, Dr. Perlmutter served as a Senior Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) for over twenty-five years in general and child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as serving on several ABPN committees. She was most recently a member of the ABPN committee writing the clinical portion of the computerized Board Examination in Psychiatry.
