NBMC’s Michael Paolello and Lisa Centeno to speak on Opioid Addiction in Teens
The Valley Hospital, New Bridge Medical Center and the Ridgewood Municipal Alliance present
It Started in the Doctor’s Office – Opioid Addiction in Teens
Studies show that most American teenagers who abuse opioid meds first received the drugs from a doctor for pain concerns from things such as a dental procedure or an athletic injury. This, coupled with stress and pressure to succeed socially and the fact that the adolescent brain is still growing, means that teens are vulnerable to addictions. This program will discuss the current opioid abuse problem in teens and why teens are at a higher risk for developing an addiction. Learn about prevention and signs of addiction as well. Hear about a recovering addict’s journey from injury to opioid addiction and finally to heroin addiction.
