Bergen New Bridge Medical Center Earns 2024 Leapfrog Top Hospital Award
Fourth year in a row the Medical Center has been named a Top Hospital and Top Teaching Hospital
Bergen New Bridge Medical Center was named a Top Hospital and Top Teaching Hospital nationally by The Leapfrog Group for its achievements in patient safety and quality. This is the fourth year in a row the Medical Center has been recognized with the top rating.
The Medical Center is one of only 134 hospitals nationwide to be recognized as a Leapfrog Top Hospital and one of only 75 to be recognized as a Top Teaching Hospital. New Jersey’s largest hospital – which also is a not-for-profit, safety net facility – qualified for the Top Hospitals distinction and met all criteria to be named a Top Teaching Hospital.
“This designation does more than recognize our team’s commitment to quality - it also reassures the diverse communities we serve that Bergen New Bridge is here for them, providing all the care they need in the safest possible environment,” said Bergen New Bridge President and CEO Deborah Visconi. “I am an incredibly proud CEO because this recognition is a testament to our team’s dedication to providing high-quality, accessible care to all those we serve.”
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization focused on patient safety. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and transparently reports hospital performance, empowering patients to find the highest-value care and the information they need to make informed decisions.
In October, Visconi celebrated her seventh year leading Bergen New Bridge – the rebranded and revitalized not-for-profit safety-net hospital owned by Bergen County and operated through an innovative partnership with Care Plus Bergen, a 501c3. The impartial Leapfrog assessment is a key quality metric for the Medical Center and those it serves.
"Protecting patients from preventable harm is central to The Leapfrog Group’s mission," said Leah Binder, President & CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "Bergen New Bridge Medical Center has set the standard for patient safety, earning the prestigious distinction of a Top Hospital. This elite honor reflects the exceptional efforts of the entire team and places Bergen New Bridge among the nation's elite in health care. Congratulations to all who made this remarkable achievement possible."
To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety and achieve top performance in its category.
