Bergen New Bridge Medical Center Commemorates Juneteenth
The Medical Center held its third annual flag raising ceremony
Bergen New Bridge Medical Center celebrated Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, with a flag raising ceremony on Thursday, June 19.
“As a public hospital and as a community resource, we have a responsibility—not just to acknowledge history, but to learn from it, and to act with intention to build a brighter future where healthcare is accessible to all,” said Deborah Visconi, President & CEO, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. “Today, as we raise this flag, we do so in remembrance of the generations who endured unimaginable injustice. We raise it to honor the progress that’s been made—to commit to going forward, not backward and to recognize the work that still needs to be done.”
Brian Cobbs, Patient Access Representative for the Medical Center, shared remarks with attendees about the importance of Juneteenth for Black Americans. Brittany Barker from Creative Soul House also performed a poetry reading at the event.
