Bergen New Bridge Medical Center Marks 25th Anniversary of September 11 at Memorial Bearing Every Name

The campus memorial is the only one of its kind in New Jersey to honor every person lost by name

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with its annual remembrance ceremony, bringing together community members, local leaders, and Medical Center team members at a uniquely meaningful campus memorial bearing the name of every person lost that day.

“We remember those who lost loved ones and had to learn how to live without them. We remember the courage we witnessed when the unimaginable happened,” said Deborah Visconi, President and CEO of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. “I hope we also remember the country we became the morning after—a country that understood, even if only for a while, that we belonged to each other. I still believe in that America, and it is the foundation of how I lead this amazing Medical Center and the work we do.”

“As our nation reflects on the 25 years since the September 11 attacks, we also recognize the many lives still being claimed by that tragic day, including the thousands of first responders, volunteers, and community members who continue to suffer from long-term and chronic health issues caused by toxic exposure at Ground Zero,” said Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco. “The County’s hospital continues to honor those we lost through this extraordinary memorial and through its commitment to providing comprehensive, compassionate care to the communities most affected. May we never forget and may the enduring lessons of that day continue to strengthen us as a community.”
Built by Medical Center employees and friends and dedicated on September 10, 2004, the Bergen New Bridge 9/11 Memorial is the only memorial of its kind in New Jersey to display the name of every person lost in the attacks. More than a monument, it is a deeply personal place where every individual is remembered, and every family’s loss is acknowledged.

The memorial is open to the public throughout the year, welcoming families of those lost, community members, Medical Center team members, and anyone seeking a peaceful place to reflect and remember. In recent years, the Bergen New Bridge Medical Center Foundation has supported enhancements to the site, including the addition of a seating area where visitors can spend time among the names and honor the lives behind them.
